Need a way to load that old meter?
Do you have a older meter that requires a older Windows that you don't have? Or maybe you are a Linux user (like me) and you don't have Windows at all.
What do you do when you want to program or update that old meter? It's getting harder and harder to find older computers with older Windows OS. It seems Window XP always worked the best for updating meters and even for updating the TP lists. I actually keep a very old Windows XP machine for that very purpose.
I've been following ReactOS and it's getting to a point where it should be very capable of solving these 'old meter' problems.
"Imagine running your favorite Windows applications and drivers in an open-source environment you can trust.
That's the mission of ReactOS!"
What is ReactOS?
ReactOS is an operating system.
Our own main features are:
- ReactOS is able to run Windows software
- ReactOS is able to run Windows drivers
- ReactOS looks-like Windows
- ReactOS is free and open source
Free and Open Source. Free as “you can download it for free”, and open source..which means…you can see how ReactOS is coded, you can modify it, you can provide patches for any bugs you find, and even more: You can create your own ReactOS versions! You’re using Open Source software daily if you use Firefox, LibreOffice, OpenOffice, GNU-Linux distributions among zillions of Open Source projects out there. The Open Source projects, as ReactOS, are driven for and by its Community, so being active translating, donating, or coding is a way to help ReactOS boost forward.
Take a look at these screenshots running apps that are used to modify meters and lists used by meters.
From what I see, it should run all the tools you need to work on older meters. Note that I have not tested this. When I have the time I plan on testing this OS with our old meter tools.
Very cool! If you have tested this OS with any meter tools let me know your findings.
