International Travellers save on phone charges

International smartphone data on the cheap!

Recently I went on a dream trip that took me to several countries and cities over a 30 day period. Starting in Dublin Ireland and going to Northern Ireland (Ballymena & Belfast), Scotland (Glasgow, Stirling & Perth), England (Liverpool, Merseyside, Salisbury & London), Greece, Turkey, Italy, and finally Barcelona, Spain (and of course several small cities and villages in between).

I wanted to be able to stay in touch with my family and friends back home, and I also wanted to be able to post pictures and videos of my trip to Facebook and Instagram. However, I didn't want to pay for a international data plan on my phone (which would run $10 or more per day).

So I started researching eSIMs. I found a few options, but I decided to go with Nomad eSIM mostly because of the reviews that said their support was great. I also liked that I could install the eSIM at a later date and activate it at a later date.

With the Nomad eSIM installed I could use Whatsapp for chatting, calls and video calls.

Nomad has regional plans that covers the countries I was visiting. I was able to get a 10GB plan for 30 days for a meager US$14 AND the same plan for my wifes phone for US$10.50 using the 25% off code TIMHGRNCCH. We both took tons of pictures and videos and the data plan was more than enough even with heavy use of social media and video streaming.

Open the Nomad website or Nomad app and apply code TIMHGRNCCH during checkout to take 25% off!

Nomad only works with devices that are eSIM-compatible. I am using a Pixel 7 Pro that I purchased directly from Google. It worked perfectly with the Nomad eSIM which installed easily and without problems.

1. What is Nomad eSIM (https://www.getnomad.app)?
We provide data plans for over 100 countries at affordable prices, allowing the consumer to get connected within 5 minutes or less, all from their mobile phone. We're cheaper than roaming, more convenient than buying a local SIM card at the airport, and more environmentally friendly to boot

2. What is an eSIM?
eSIM stands for embedded SIM. It is identical to a physical SIM card in every respect except, of course, it is not physical at all. You just have to scan a QR code to download and install it. For more details refer to our blog post: https://www.getnomad.app/blog/what-is-esim

3. Do I need to download the Nomad App?
Strictly speaking, no. However, since Nomad is available on both iOS and Android, we strongly recommend downloading the app for the best user experience: you can browse, purchase, install, activate, and manage your data all on the app! It's easier to manage features like loyalty points, multiple eSIMs, and so on.

4. What devices are compatible with eSIM?
Most recent iOS and Android smart devices are compatible with eSIM. For a full list, check out: https://getnomad.app/shop/support_device

5. How to purchase and install an eSIM?
The eSIM is installed with the press of a button in your phone's settings. For some eSIMs, it is also instantly activated (so it is recommended to do this 1 day before the trip). For others, it has to be activated in a separate step (also just 1 click), which allows flexibility to plan ahead. Make sure to download and install in a location where the phone has WIFI connectivity For more details refer to our blog post: https://www.getnomad.app/blog/how-to-install-esim
